Main accountabilities:
  • Maintain the flow of data between Partners and Petronas.
  • Provide support to the well placement decision making process.
  • Ensure all well specific data is prepared, filed and distributed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure quality control and analyse all geological data, including geophysical, sedimentological, petrological and incorporate these data into integrated interpretations.
  • Conduct structural interpretation by interfacing with project geophysicist.
  • Evaluate hydrocarbon potential and generate prospects in exploration block. 
  • Identify geological setting of the reservoir rock and construct geological model.
  • Perform sedimentologic and / or other geologic studies and integrate results into multi-disciplinary field reservoir descriptions and liaise with other engineering disciplines.
  • Recommend new geological studies and support all aspects of development activities.
Primary Duties
  • To steer and encourage staff to find innovative ideas and solutions to allow aggressive pursuit of exploration, appraisal, and development opportunities and actively drive conversion of prospect, lead, and discovered hydrocarbon volumes into proven reserves.
  • Recommends to management development/appraisal/exploration objectives in pursuit of adding resource base within the acreage and recommends all necessary resources (manpower, geoscience tools & service agreements) are in place to achieve the development/appraisal/exploration objectives.
  • Prepare and update an inventory of exploration, appraisal and development scope.
  • Responsible for the technical quality of all Kuala Lumpur based exploration to development geological interpretations, geological modelling, and operational geology throughout the PM-304 asset, you will be expected to develop value added data acquisition plan to improve reservoir understanding and manage the subsurface risk.
  • Plan and co-ordinate development and near field exploration geological-geophysical studies within the Asset. This may include semi-regional data analyses as it applies to near and in-field drilling opportunities.
  • Plan and co-ordinate geological modelling over the PM-304 asset, including liaison with other geoscience disciplines and reservoir engineers to ensure consistency of data and knowledge.
  • Ensure technical quality control over geological output; maintain technical standards, monitor, recommend and apply best practices.
  • Ensure a comprehensive geoscience understanding is passed to reservoir engineering and ensure input, approaches and assumptions used in dynamic models and reservoir engineering database are consistent.
  • Participate in cross-asset Peer and Technical Reviews as required.
  • Contribute as required to Asset Documentation.
  • Strictly adhere to Corporate and Departmental HSE policies & guidelines.
  • Provide technical endorsement for geoscience related HSE critical activities.
  • Mentoring & developing young Malaysian staff will be an integral part of job
Key skills, knowledge and experience required:
  • Degree in Geology or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant practical experience.
  • Sound knowledge of petrophysics and strong interpretation skills of wire line logs.
  • Sound knowledge of RMS/Petrel, Geoframe or other G & G software.
  • Be self-motivated to accomplish world-class results.
  • Have a sufficiently broad experience base to be able to exercise independent thought and decision making.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Have a strong written and verbal command of English.
